When I think of the word ‘trio’ my immediate thoughts are to one of my favourite chocolate biscuits and to six person tag team action. I’ll now add to this the title of our new monthly feature, Positive Trio, which picks three things that were enjoyable in wrestling during the last month. The first Positive Trio are Chad Gable, The Hardy Compound and Swerve Strickland versus Will Ospreay.

Chad Gable was aggrieved. It should have been him and not Sami Zayn who faced Gunther at WrestleMania. He finally snapped and cemented his heel turn by suplexing Sami out of his wife’s arms.

Last month saw Chad become more unhinged as he failed in his quest to defeat Sami at Clash at the Castle and the Alpha Academy continued to disappoint him.

The segments involving Chad were the highlight of Raw. Slapping Tozawa and taking the crutch from an injured Maxxine. Otis was the one most berated by Chad. With the crowd chanting ‘Otis, Otis, Otis’ he finally snapped and shoved Chad across the ring.

An eventful month for Chad even saw him become a victim of the debuting Wyatt Sicks.

The Hardy Compound

The Final Deletion was one of my favourite things in wrestling during the 2010’s. With “Broken” Matt Hardy back in TNA, this was a chance to revisit The Hardy Compound.

The System were the slightly hesitant visitors who fell into a trance and experienced their own nightmares. We saw Queen Rebecca, King Maxel (and the rest of the Hardy children), Vanguard 1, the Lake of Reincarnation and my favourite Senor Benjamin. This was part horror, part drama and part comedy.

Was it silly – yes, was it at times confusing – yes, was it fun – absolutely. This was proof that wrestling is more than just five star matches. At it’s best it’s a smorgasbord of all forms of entertainment.

Swerve Strickland versus Will Ospreay

This was the much anticipated main event of Forbidden Door and it didn’t disappoint. Both competitors brought incredible skill and athleticism.

For Will, this was another in a long line of fantastic matches in 2024. For Swerve this was the match he needed to further cement his title reign. Lots of near falls and drama, the match wasn’t even de-railed by the interference from Don Callis.

An emotional moment at the end as MJF watched on the monitors backstage. We know that Swerve will be defending against the winner of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at All In. Could we also see Will versus MJF?
