The standout moment of this month’s Positive Trio was a much anticipated return to the squared circle. Shortly after WrestleMania 31, AJ Lee had her last in ring match due to damage to her spine. A few months later, her future husband, CM Punk left the WWE and seemingly the wrestling business forever.

Punk’s return to AEW and then to the WWE led to continued rumours that Lee may return. Her medical condition seemed to indicate that wouldn’t happen but a few weeks ago the rumours started to get stronger.
Although the expectation was there heading into the 5th September Smackdown, there was still a chance that Rhea Ripley would be the one to help Punk in his feud with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
The crowd pop when Lee’s music hit was spine tingling. The reaction of Seth and Becky sold the moment perfectly. Lee attacked Becky setting up the mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza.
The Wrestlepalooza match didn’t disappoint as Lee showed the skills that made her a former three times Divas champion. The match had so much intrigue due to the real life married couples teaming and facing each other. Glimpses of physical interaction between Lee and Seth as well as between Punk and Becky added to the drama. Lee gained the victory for her team after making Becky submit.
The second of this month’s Positive Trio has been the Sami Zayn United States Open Challenge. John Cena had set the standard for open challenges with memorably his including matches with Sami and also Kevin Owens.

The first month of Sami’s has seen incredible matches. Firstly he returned the favour and gave John Cena an opportunity at the championship. The match went to an over 20 minutes no contest after Brock Lesnar hit the ring and attacked.
The versatility of Sami was seen during the rest of September as he had classic matches with Rey Fenix, Carmelo Hayes and Je’Von Evans. Defending every week will surely take a toll on Sami eventually but it would be great to see this run continue for a few months before Sami moves on and sets his sights on a world championship.

September saw several women’s titles changing with Stephanie Vaquer winning the Raw title, Kelani Jordan winning the TNA title and Kris Statlander winning the AEW title. The final entry of this month’s trio though involved a women’s title match where the champion retained.
When Jacy Jayne won the NXT title in May, it was a big surprise and I was unsure if she was the right person to lead the brand. As part of Toxic Attraction she had shown promise working with Mandy Rose and Gigi Dolan. The break up of this group seemed to set Jacy’s career back until she formed a new group Fatal Influence with Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx.
Jacy then won TNA title in July to become a double champion. When she lost the TNA title the following month it increased the likelihood of her spiralling and her NXT title being in jeopardy.
Lola Vice has been on an impressive run this year which led to her winning a number one contenders match at Heatwave against Kelani Jordan and Jaida Parker. Some impressive performances in AAA increased her momentum heading into her title match with Jacy at No Mercy.
The match exceeded expectations with hard hitting action, near falls and outside interference. Jacy was impressive in victory and Lola remained strong despite the defeat. A really enjoyable match to finish this month’s Positive Trio.
