The end of the year saw the end of John Cena’s legendary career and the Worlds End. Cena’s last match and the Continental Classic finale at Worlds End both make this month’s Positive Trio. They are joined by an incredible promo from Raw.

John Cena’s last match was always going to be a special moment and since Cena announced his retirement plans the speculation around his final opponent was rampant. A tournament was announced which was a fantastic prize for the winner although as the bracket became clearer, it was obvious that Cena’s opponent would be Gunther.

The match had genuine suspense. The tradition is for the veteran leaving to do pass the torch to his opponent but in this case the vocal support for Cena made you think there would be a happy ending.

Cena tried all of his classic moves but Gunther wouldn’t stay down. When Gunther locked in his sleeper hold it seemed that Cena would power out, but Gunther quickly laid some vicious strikes into Cena to weaken him. You could tell Cena was fading and there was shock as he gave a smile and tapped.

The smile was reminiscent of when Obi-Wan Kenobi sacrificed himself to Darth Vader in the original Star Wars. The finish was polarising but it was great for Gunther who has now ‘retired’ both Bill Goldberg and John Cena in the same year.

The Continental Classic is a great annual addition to the AEW calendar. The G1 style format adds intrigue to Dynamite and Collision.

This year’s Classic started with Jon Moxley continuing his recent slump, but crucial wins towards the end saw him sneak into the semi finals. The rest of the semi finals were filled by members of the Don Callis family – Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher. This led to the unusual scenario of all four semi finalists being heels.

Okada advanced to final following the unscrupulous use of a screwdriver which increased the tension between himself and Takeshita.

We then had Moxley facing Fletcher and something strange happened as the crowd started to cheer Moxley. Watching, you almost forget Moxley’s heinous acts of the last year and wanted him to win. The match itself was incredible with dangerous looking bumps and several near falls.

Moxley ended up getting the victory and used the momentum and crowd support to win the final and take the AEW Continental championship.

The first Raw of 2026 will include a Stranger Things crossover which will lead to a lot of attention on the show. A big title match is also scheduled as CM Punk defends the world title against Bron Breakker.

The last Raw of 2025 saw an incredible in ring promo between Punk and Bron. We have seen this level of promo many times from Punk but the way Bron held his own was impressive.

The story is a relatively simple one, the experienced champion against the young athletic and strong upstart challenger. Bron exuded confidence initially but started to show some doubts as Punk questioned if Bron knew what it would take to pry the belt from his grasp.

It should be a great first Raw of 2026 as Punk and Bron collide.
