October was a month where there was lots of good but not much great – which made this month’s Trio a bit easier to select than usual.

One moment that certainly was great, happened at TNA’s Bound for Glory. When Leon Slater handed in his newly regained X Division championship at Lockdown to exercise option C it was a huge gamble.

In the main event, Slater challenged Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship. A great video package on Slater’s rise preceded the match.

The match started with both competitors showing their technical wrestling skills. At different points, it seemed that Nemeth would retain, before Slater hit a 450 splash to become the new champion and proving he is the ‘Youngest in Charge’.

AEW held their WrestleDream pay per view which saw a number of good matches including the first match of the best of five series between FTR and the Motor City Machine Guns. The standout of the show, however, was a dramatic tag team championship match where The Young Bucks defended against Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher. It was a testament to the match that during it, it seemed the Don Callis family members could defeat the Bucks.

The match was fast paced with several high risk and dangerous looking moves. Despite the best efforts of the challengers, the Bucks retained after Knight was hit with the BTE trigger and the one, two, three followed.

He may not be the ‘Youngest in Charge’ but he is the ‘Young O.G.’. Je’Von Evans is the last of this month’s Trio due to a month bookended by memorable moments.

Evans was in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match and showed great tenacity. Early in the match Evans was taken out on a stretcher only for him to return to the ring in an ambulance. The ambulance played into the big spot of the match.

Evans was pushed from the top of the ladder by Bron Breaker and went crashing through the roof of the ambulance. The spot received mixed reactions from fans as it was clear the roof was set up to cave in safely. For me, it was still spectacular. No-one wants to see a wrestler get hurt and the risk was still high as Evans had to land in the correct spot.

On the last Raw of the month, Evans interrupted Universal Champion Sami Zayn. After they went toe to toe on the microphone, the two faced each other in the ring. It was a fantastic match with Evans just falling short in his bid to become champion.
